All in all a very busy year. Next year we are in contention to host the prestigious Craven week U18 rugby tournament which bares testimony to our great facilities and organisational ability.
The running of a successful school, offering the vast range of activities in and out of the classroom takes an enormous effort.
The results we have taken note of at the special assembly for Regional, Provincial and National achievements, Sports Banquet and the Senior Prize giving two weeks ago. A Record number or Honours and Colours for academics is the highlight of the year.
The running of the school involves many facets and it is impossible to report on all activities. The following figures will offer some insight into various areas of interest. Their effort ensures that we can be proud of all achievements and the learners can be proud for the rest of their lives.
This year has been one of the most successful years at the school both in the classrooms and on the sports fields, being number one in the province in many sports Rugby, Squash, Water Polo, Tennis, Softball just to name a few.
We achieved more subject distinctions in than any previous year. We have more rugby players and cricket players in provincial teams than all other schools put together. We are rated 6th in the country in Rugby and 5th in the country in Hockey.
Recently we produced a Dolphins cricket player, in his matric year Our Facilities are in very good condition and we continue to maintain and improve on these facilities.
The Ivan Clark Pavilion was completed at the beginning of this year. This is a world class facilitynot only for Old Boys but to be enjoyed by the whole Glenwood family. All these achievements are produced by motivated and proud Glenwood boys who are coached and managed by qualified staff.
Last week our 1st team coach and his assistant coach were selected to coach the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Craven week side. I would like to thank all members of the governing body, for their support and dedication to the school. RECORD 01 We as parents fund the majority of the costs associated with the running of the school and we are well aware of the sacrifices the parents make in the interests of providing our sons with excellent education and experience.
The Governing Body has a managing role over the budgeting process and I can assure you that every effort has been made to balance the need to offer your sons an excellent education and the ability of our parent body to pay school fees.
We are confident our current matrics writing their final exams will do well and make us proud of our school. We wish them well in their respective futures. In conclusion, your Governing Body is looking forward to serving Glenwood High School and we appreciate the confidence the parents have shown us.
Kershaw HeadmasterC. Bredell Head PrefectMr R. Urbach Prefects MasterK. It was a journey that saw the boys pledge their collective service to lead the affairs of their brothers with a rod of discipline, integrity, care and exemplary lives worthy of emulation.
Directed very well by Head Prefect Chris Bredell and his two Deputies Jaco Coetzee and Kevin Du Randt the boys maintained the view that their appointments were a privilege, accompanied by a significant workload and, more so than other leadership groups I have had the pleasure of working with, this meant that the true spirit of servant leadership was always foremost in their thought process and very evident through their actions.
I noticed very early on that the boys were very confident in their own abilities to execute roles handed to them through their exhaustive planning processes. They truly did have their collective finger well and truly on the pulse and this meant that individuals accepted responsibility and dealt maturely with challenges in their areas of expertise and were comfortable with the proverbial buck landing firmly at their feet.We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us.
